Wesley Heights was once a farm named Tunlaw, in fanciful reference to a large walnut tree on the premises. Hence the road to the farm was named Tunlaw Road. When New Mexico became a state, the Wesley Heights stretch of Tunlaw Road was renamed after the new state.
